Lakewood Pathology Launches National Gastrointestinal Diagnostic Services

LAKEWOOD PATHOLOGY LAUNCHES NATIONAL GASTROINTESTINAL DIAGNOSTICS SERVICES

Anatomic Pathology Company Continues National Expansion with Enhanced Offering

Lakewood, NJ - May 19, 2008 - Lakewood Pathology announced today that it has launched a national gastrointestinal (GI) offering to further expand its diagnostic services. The new suite of services marks another significant step in the company's transformation from a regional laboratory into a national anatomic pathology leader, offering a range of specialized services.

Lakewood, a leader in anatomic pathology for urology, has made a multi-million dollar investment to expand its team of pathologists and enhance its laboratory information system to offer national diagnostic services uniquely tailored to the needs of gastroenterologists. Its specialized offering features a dedicated team of fellowship-educated gastrointestinal pathologists, state-of-the art diagnostic reports, and enhanced connectivity options with electronic health records.

"Our services are completely dedicated to supporting gastroenterologists in their goal of providing the best care possible to their patients," said Dr. Ali Riba, Lakewood's associate medical director. Previously serving as the attending pathologist and an associate professor at Yale University, Dr. Riba has focused his research on gastrointestinal pathology. Noting that digestive tract disorders are responsible for more people being hospitalized in the U.S. than any other group of disorders, he emphasized: "Every element of our services is designed to provide gastroenterologists with the information they need quickly, easily and in a comprehensive format, so they can focus on diagnosing and caring for their patients."

Lakewood's national GI services were developed using Next Level(tm) Diagnostics, which are enhanced procedures and processes inserted throughout the testing process to ensure the highest level of quality, service and innovation is achieved. The offering features customized GI reports with embedded color photomicrographs to enable "at-a-glance" comprehension of results. Its enhanced connectivity options support the national movement to electronic health records (EHRs) by allowing gastroenterologists to easily access information through direct interfaces with EHRs. Lakewood, which partners with the gastroenterologist's preferred vendor, currently works with a variety of leading providers, including: ProVation Medical, Intuitive Medical Software and meridianEMR.
"Our company's laser focus on delivering outstanding, personalized customer service is the reason we have attracted new customers and grown our business so successfully over the past year," said Doug Berg, chief executive officer of Lakewood Pathology. "We have extended our expertise to provide a unique offering to the gastrointestinal market that is above and beyond what is offered anywhere else. Our world-class team of pathologists and employees is committed to doing everything we can to continue to provide the best possible services to our clients, so they can focus on what is most important - their patients."
